International aid groups are rushing to take part in a massive relief effort in Haiti after a powerful earthquake devastated the country on Tuesday.
It all seems like a never story .. one disaster after another.
Sadly, a nurse from Elmira, Ont., was confirmed dead by Lou Geense, the director of global initiatives with the Emmanuel Missionary Church of Canada.
The Red Cross estimates as many as 3 million people have been affected by the quake. But with continued aftershocks and power and phone service spotty at best, it may take a day or two to determine the full extent of the destruction.
Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the Western hemisphere and the earthquake has only made the situation there more dire. you can visit The Canadian Red Cross online at www.redcross.ca to donate. You can also donate by calling 1-800-418-1111
